Keep Your Refrigerator Healthy

posted in Handy Tips |

Many people take for granted that food and meat are stored in the refrigerator, they

remain fresh and safe for consumption. This is not quite so as food is not stored at the

correct temperture or has remained in the refrigerator for too long. Many people fail to notice

how important is food storage with correct refrigerator temperature. The correct running

temperature is between 0 degree C and 5 degrees C. Above this limit, bacteria starts to

multibly quickily.

One such bacteria is the salmonella, a well known food-poisoning organism. Salmonella is

also found in poultry and eggs and in red meat which are not stored at right temperature

and not cooked thoroughly. When salmonella develops in these meat and consumed, food

poisoning can occur with symptons such as diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and fever.

Once chilled food is out of the fridge, eat it as quickly as you can. Allow hot food to

cool before putting them. Throw out left food regularly. Do not let ice build up in your

refrigerator, defrost it often. These are some of the tips for a good and healthy refrigerator.
