I have 4 daughters. All are married except for the youngest.
For my eldest daughter’s wedding, my husband and I were extremely excited and insisted on planning the wedding right down to the smallest details. Blinded by the sheer anticipation and excitement of the event, we had no idea how stressful and complicated planning a wedding event can be. Factor in traveling 200KMs between the bride and groom’s hometown, we were absolutely floored by the end of it all. So were the bride and groom.
Three years on, it’s time for my second daughter’s wedding. We imagined with the experience gained from the mistakes of her big sister’s wedding, we should be able to plan and cope better. Wrong! This time, the in-laws chimed in and insists on having a hand too at wedding planning, havoc ensued.
After that, I told myself never plan a wedding event again. My advice to all parents out there:
1) Hire a wedding planner! They deserve every penny paid to them. Sit back, relax and savour every moment of the wedding knowing you have professionals taking care of everything. From the decorations, flowers, cake, venue right down to Wedding Gifts, invitations, cars and much more.
2) Have your in-laws plan it and keep your mouth shut no matter what happens.
3) Persuade your children to have a really really small wedding reception, inviting the smallest number of guests. Keeping things as simple as possible.
My third daughter went with the third option by throwing one of the smallest wedding reception in town. But all family members left with the biggest smile on their faces.
